Winter Wonderland Mystery Quilt 2010

This was our mystery quilt class for November and December. Can you see the ear muffs on one of the appliquéd snowmen?!!
We had 2 crazy patch pine trees and 2 'braided' pine trees all done as foundation piecing.
Two different 'snowflake' blocks and the 'Pineapple' variation in the centre.
I plan to add Prairie points, in various greens, around the outside instead of binding as I usually would. I thought that they would look like more trees, in keeping with the winter theme.
I chose a wintry background fabric (with crazy cats skiing) to keep the quilt current after the Christmas season.
Some of the other quilters chose brilliant red background or splash in your face blues which really brought out the snowflake blocks and showed off the greenery very well.

Elgin Community Donates

First: the yarn was donated, dropped here at my shop; then the yarn was bagged for easy pick up; then finished items began to be brought in and filled my shop window -- up to a foot deep in wooly items!!
In just 6 weeks of promoting, there were over 150 hats, 42 scarves, 36 pairs of mittens!
This is a small sampling of the generous hearts and hands of people from our communities.
After being divided into 5 groups ( that was how many recipient targets we have at this time ) the bags of 'warm wishes' will be delivered this week! Each to be enjoyed by a child or someone in shelter or homeless.
Many thanks to all who participated!!!
Not to worry if you still have a hat or mitts to bring in, continue to bring them to the shop or a local charity of your own. Carrie's Q&K will continue to accept yarn and finished items for the homeless or those in shelter all year.

Online Patterns

I completely forgot about this lovely lady, Catherine, who had visited my shop during the summer, but not the purse she had been wearing! When today, in my mail, I received a hand written note from Catherine. Emails are good, but old fashioned letters are even better!
I was pleasantly surprised with the note and included was the pattern for the purse I had admired. Catherine also sent me 2 websites to check out for more patterns for making purses! I looked them over and decided to share:

www.henriettashandbags.com
www.pursepatterns.com (search: hip huggers)

So very kind of you, Catherine!!
Thank you! Thank you!!
